R Intro

R is a free and open-source software package for computing and statistical analysis. It has tons of packages dealing with advanced and complex analysis specifically for different fields. Due to its flexibility in coding, R is now one of the most popular programs among statisticians and other researchers. This workshop will cover the basics of R package and programming as well as data description and statistical analysis including correlation, regression, t-test, ANOVA, and two-way tables with Chi-square test.

Mplus Intro

This 2-hour workshop will walk through Mplus syntax and output for those who have not used Mplus before or want to build more comfort with using Mplus for configural factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation models (SEM). This session will not go over all the modeling steps of CFA and SEM (see Dr. Alex Schoemann’s session Week 2 for the steps); it will go through the syntax for estimating different parameters (factor loadings, residuals, means, correlations, regression coefficients) and constraining parameters (to each other across groups or to a specific value).

Workshop conducted by Dr. Whitney Moore.

Inferential Statistics

This workshop is designed for individuals with little to no background in math or statistics. Its goal is to introduce you to the fundamental concepts of statistical inference and explore commonly used methods, with a focus on when and how to apply them effectively. You’ll also gain hands-on experience applying these methods using the statistical software R.

T Tests and ANOVA

This workshop will cover the use of Students t-test and its various forms for a single sample (group), two independent samples or groups, and paired or matched data. Concepts of hypotheses testing will be briefly covered. These analyses will then be generalized to cover more than two groups in Single Factor ANOVA as well as cover two or more factors in an ANOVA. IBM SPSS and R software will be used to demonstrate these analyses.

Research Design in Qualitative Studies

Qualitative methods allow researchers to advance theory and practice across disciplines through the examination of individuals lived experiences and social realities. This workshop will (1) introduce the epistemological and ontological assumptions of qualitative research, (2) discuss the process of developing research questions in qualitative research, and (3) consider how a qualitative research project could be designed to answer the research questions developed. Varying approaches to qualitative data collection (e.g., interviews, focus groups, participant observation, document analysis) will be discussed briefly.
