Workshops for Department Chairs

These workshops are designed to provide updates and opportunities for dialogue among department chairs. Most sessions are available for all department chairs, however, some are specifically for new department chairs only (as designated under those titles).

August 23, 2023	Fall 2023 Updates for Department Chairs This session will address topics relevant to Department Chairs and Chairs of Personnel Committees such as: Progress Toward Tenure letters, Cumulative Evaluations, and External Peer Reviewers for Tenure and Promotion. August 30, 2023 3:00 – 4:00 August 31, 2023 12:00 – 1:00	Faculty180 – Tenure and Promotion Unit Administrator Training This training is intended for Unit Administrators who have tenure & promotion candidates submitting PADs in September 2023. This session will provide guidance on how to help your faculty during this process, how to upload external review letters, and how to send the PAD forward to the committee after the deadline. September 22, 2023 8:30 - 10:00 am Location: Main Campus Student Center Room 249	Department Chairs & Directors Meeting with the Provost This meeting is designed to ensure that Department Chairs and Directors are equipped with information on developments affecting students, faculty, and/or staff across the academic units of East Carolina University. The meetings are designed to enable timely and bidirectional communication on university direction and policy changes that affect faculty and academic operations, and also to provide a forum for exchange. There will be three meetings across the 2023-2024 academic year.

October 17, 2023 10:00 – 12:00 Main Campus Student Center Room 249	Reappointment, Promotion & Tenure Workshop This is a general annual workshop open to all faculty Department Chairs are encouraged to attend the first part of this two-part workshop when participants will hear an overview of campus policies and procedures related to promotion and tenure as well as tips and updates for developing a Personnel Action Dossier (PAD). Note: After this general session, break-out rooms will, be available for participants to hear tips and advice from faculty who have recently earned tenure and promotion to full professor. Chairs may choose to leave the session before this segment of the workshop, but attending the first part will help to ensure you are hearing the same information being shared with faculty about these important processes.
